Herb Stern

A life-long Absecon island resident, Herb grew up in Atlantic City and attended Atlantic City High School.  Upon graduation, Herb joined the US Navy, and served aboard ship as an Electrical Technician.  After receiving his degree from Rutgers University, Herb joined the family retail business, expanding the business until his retirement.  Herb built his own home in Longport in 1953, and with his wife, raised 3 children.

Herb has volunteered and headed various organizations in the education, civic, arts, and historical fields.  He is the past President of the Longport Board of Education and co-founder of the Herb Stern Longport Scholarship Fund, named in his honor by Board Members.

Carl Tripician, Esq.

Board Vice-President

Carl Tripician is a local attorney and President of the Longport Board of Education.  Carl and his wife Karen chose Longport many years ago as the perfect place to raise a family (which now includes four children and a puppy!).  You can most often find Carl early summer mornings on his paddle board.  His favorite quote regarding volunteering and fundraising: “No one has ever become poor by giving.”

Lynn Baumgardner

Board Treasurer

Lynn Baumgardner is a 35-year resident of Longport.  She was a member of the Longport School Board for many years and was involved in helping to get the Education Foundation approved.  Lynn, along with her husband George, raised their 5 children in Longport .  With 5 children attending and graduating from college, Lynn is aware of the financial costs for continued education and is happy to help local students get financial support from our friends and neighbors in Longport.

Kristen Towbin

Board Secretary

Kristen Towbin is a relative new-comer to Longport, but already understands the beauty of the borough.  A firm believer that we all never stop learning, Kristen is excited to be a part of a citizen-funded effort to support local students, both young and old.  With the rising costs of schooling and supplies, every bit counts!  Kristen owns and runs Pencil Sketch Staging & Design, a local home staging and redesign business.  She and her husband Patrick have two children who currently attend Ross & Tighe schools.

Patrick Armstrong

Board Member

While most easily recognized in his fire fighter uniform (Patrick is part of the Margate Fire Department), locals may also know Patrick from their days growing up on the island, from the beach where he was a Longport lifeguard and then Lifeguard Captain, or from the many community and sporting events he attends with his wife Krista and their two children.  In addition to his time on this Board, Patrick also serves on the Margate Firefighter's Scholarship team.

Dorothy McGee

Board Member

Dorothy Sanders McGee was born in Rochester, NY and first moved to NJ in 1961 to work as a computer programmer with Friden, Inc.  She moved to Margate in 1970 and hasn't looked back!  As a mother of 3, a grandmother of 6, and a former Longport Board of Education Business Administrator, Dorothy is familiar with most of the families and children in Longport!  In addition to her time on our Board, Dorothy has previously served on the Board of Directors for Miss America and was a former Charity League President.
